The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, in the heart of Ajaccio, is an architectural treasure of baroque style, built between 1577 and 1593. Its sober façade hides a sumptuous interior, adorned with frescoes, sculptures and precious works of art, some of which were made by renowned local artists. The marble and gilded altar is particularly remarkable.

This place of worship is also famous for having been the site of the baptism of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1771, adding a historical dimension to its cultural importance.
